How to Use B.O.S.S. – Blocks Odors, Stains, Stops bleed thru!

B.O.S.S. contains odor eliminating and stain blocking technology for exceptional coverage. This creamy formula glides on smooth and dries in about an hour.

B.O.S.S. prevents bleed thru of wood tannins and varnishes, allowing you to transform any piece to a crisp, light color with ease. This product will completely mask odors on old furniture that may have been exposed to smoke, pets, or other circumstances that contribute to odors. In two coats, B.O.S.S. tackles tough set-in stains including permanent marker, water stains, and much more. B.O.S.S. even masks smoke odors and nicotine smells. B.O.S.S. is a water-based formula that mimics an oil based or shellac product. That means easy soap and water clean-up. Available in 8 oz, 16 oz, or 32 oz containers. Clear can be used when distressing a piece. White is for light colored paint colors. Gray is for darker pigmented paint colors.

How to use Slick Stick

Slick Stick allows you to paint shiny, slick, or slippery surfaces with ease! Surfaces like PVC, glass, Formica, laminate, metal, and more are easily painted and stay painted. This product will easily allow the paint to adhere to the surface! Slick Stick is a water-base primer specifically made to bond to difficult surfaces. This product is a problem solver and should not be needed on all projects.

This naturally thin viscosity oil will penetrate porous surfaces well. Use on bare wood, over DBP chalk mineral paint, cutting boards, carved utensils, and to revive old wood finishes.

How to use Howdy-Do Hemp Oil

A little goes a long way! This naturally thin viscosity oil will penetrate porous surfaces- use on bare wood, over Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint, cutting boards, butcher blocks, carved utensils and more. Howdy-Do Hemp Oil when used with Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint will harden within 30 days to provide a beautiful revived, durable, water resistant finish. The applicator pads are a must when using this. Start with a clean, dry surface. First, clean with White Lightning. Apply a small amount of oil to your surface using an applicator pad, cloth or brush. Rub gently until it is absorbed by the raw wood or chalk mineral paint. Allow two hours to dry. Apply 2-4 coats if desired for additional sheen and protection. Wipe excess after twelve hours.

How to use Sea Spray

Mix two scoops of Sea Spray with 8 oz of the Dixie Belle Paint. If needed mix another 1/2 scoop until you achieve a thick, brownie batter-like consistency. Using a brush, dab and smooth the bristles to form crests and peaks, just like ocean waves.

How to use Glazes

Be sure the Glaze is mixed really well. Give the Clear Coat a couple hours to dry or you can glaze first and then Clear coat. Working in sections, use a chip brush or sponge brush and start applying the glaze to your liking. If you are working with a piece with lots of nooks and crannies/carvings, work the glaze in to make those details pop. Wipe away excess glaze or add more if necessary, simply wipe off with a damp rag or paper towel. Dry time varies. However, you usually have 10-20 minutes to work with the glaze before it dries completely.

How to use Clear Coat:

Allow your last coat of paint to dry; depending on the weather/humidity about an hour. Simply brush a very thin, even layer of clear coat. For an extra layer of protection, simply add another coat of our clear coat in an hour. You don't have to wax Dixie Belle.

How to use Gator Hide:

Allow your finished piece to completely dry. The Blue Sponge fits perfectly in your hand, use it to apply a thin layer of Gator Hide for a smooth even finish! You can also use a Synthetic brush to apply a thin layer of Gator Hide. Let it dry 2 hours and repeat this up to 3 thin layers to get a water repellent finish! A 48-hour dry time is recommended.

How to use Silk All-in-One:

A 16 oz jar of Silk covers 72 square feet, with a 21 to 30 Day Cure Time. De-gloss ALL pieces with a light scuff sanding, 220 grit or higher. Clean Well with Pristine Clean, rinse well to remove residue. Factory finishes, lacquer, laminate, glass, or plastic require scuff sanding and Slick Stick for proper adherence. For increased durability, apply 2 coats of paint. Apply with a dry Synthetic Brush, moderately load paintbrush, applying in long smooth strokes in one direction. Do not over work Silk paint. Silk All-in-One Mineral Paint has built-in topcoat, primer, and water-based stain blocker. Cooler temperatures or higher humidity may prolong drying time. Stays looking new longer and requires fewer coats, full coverage, and strong coating, with a low reflective finish and excellent durability. Washable for an easy - clean finish. Water, Mildew and Grease Resistant. Viscosity might vary depending on pigments. Store between 50-90°F (10-32°C.). Do not thin Silk unless using a sprayer. If you thin out Silk only recommend using water/Floetrol of no more than 8 ounces per gallon.

How to use Stencils:

Our reusable Mylar Stencils were designed with you in mind. These stencils are heavy duty 10 mil Mylar and the pattern measures 14" x 18" - 35.56cm x 45.72cm
The designs can be repeated in any direction. Clean promptly after use with soap and water.

How to use Premium Rice Decoupage Papers:

Decide where you would like to place your Premium Rice Decoupage Paper. Cut the border off your decoupage paper. Apply Clear Coat on the area where you want to place the decoupage paper. Place the decoupage paper on top of the Clear Coat. Apply another layer of Clear Coat on top of the Premium Rice Decoupage paper. Once paper is activated with Clear Coat you can move it around gently but take care not to wrinkle or tear the paper. Allow the Clear Coat to dry completely before adding any other products. Dries in one hour. Cures in 21-30 days.

How to use Chalk Mineral Paint:

Clean your piece, preferably with Dixie Belle White Lightening Cleaner, to remove dust and grime. Dixie Belle Chalk Mineral Paint is very thick and a little goes a long way. The longer the lid stays off, the thicker it will get. If you'd like it thinner, no worries, just add a little water and stir. Add too much water? No worries, just leave lid off and it will thicken up. Whatever consistency you desire, Dixie Belle Paint will work for you! Distress a little too much for your taste? Just paint right over that area and start again! Most pieces will take one to two coats for full coverage. Sometimes, after the first coat dries it will look blotchy. Don't freak out! How to use Terra Clay Paint:

Brand new from Dixie Belle Paint is Terra Clay Paint. This all-natural artisan paint is ideal for those for whom creativity is key. Mix, blend, play and create to your heart’s content. There are no rules with this thick, creamy paint. Terra Clay Paint needs to be sealed with Terra Seal. Minimal prep - just clean with Dixie Belle Terra Clean. A scuff sand isn’t required but is always good prep practice. Use a Continuous Mist Spray Bottle to keep the paint workable while painting. The paint lends itself to creating texture; use natural bristle brushes, a spatula, sponge or even your finger tips to build texture in a mixture of thinner/thicker coats. Dixie Belle’s 2" Premium Chip Brush and larger Big Daddy brushes are excellent choices. 2 hour dry and cure time - allow at least 2 hours between each coat of paint and 24 hours before you seal. Dries to a porous, matte finish and requires sealing with Terra Seal (matte) or Terra Wax with a La Petite Brush is great to apply wax. Expect colors to change markedly between being wet and dry - application of a top coat deepens the color. Terra Clay Paint is water-based so brushes can be washed with soap and water when finished. Leave to dry on some kitchen roll with bristles pointing down, so that the water doesn’t drain back into the bristle glue – giving your brushes a longer life. If you’ve invested in good quality brushes, consider using the Dixie Belle Brush Cleaner which will help condition your brushes and extend their life.

Frequently Asked Questions DIXIE BELLE Products

Is there a trick to putting on Clear Coat? Do you put on Clear Coat first or Glaze first?

There is no right, or wrong way so do this. It depends on the look you want to achieve. Dixie Belle Paint is porous by nature, so if you want an uneven look for example in cavities or detailed areas, then glaze first. If you want an even smooth look, ie. Flat surfaces, then clear coat first and then glaze.

My Clear Coat is "yellowing", what happened?

It is not the clear coat, sometimes the furniture you are working on has a number of things that might be happening. It could have a heavy stain, varnish or it could have been in a house that had heavy smokers etc. When you apply the clear coat over you painted piece, it actually pulls up the stain or tobacco stains. No worries, now that you have clear coated the piece it will seal it and then re-paint.

Does Dixie Belle Paint have to be sealed?

No, once Dixie Belle Paint has cured, after 30 days, it is durable just the way it is. You can paint and be done with it if you like the look.

How far do Dixie Belle Paint products cover?

Should I use Easy Peasy Spray Wax before or after Clear Coat?

Both of these products are water-based and are interchangeable. You can use one or both, but it is not necessary to use both.

How do you use Easy Peasy Spray Wax?

Shake the bottle, use a light mist on the furniture; take a lint free cloth and wipe. Repeat at least 2 more times. As with any wax, this should be repeated every 6 to 9 months.

Can you paint leather? Fabric?

Yes, Dixie Belle Paint is perfect for both fabrics. Just lightly mist your furniture with water. (Do not over-saturate), and then paint like normal. You might have to do a second coat. My paint is chipping off… Why?

Chalk paint adheres to many surface… some surfaces maybe a little trickier than others. Laminate or shiny slick surfaces should be cleaned first with a solution of our amazing cleaner called White Lightening. Follow the directions and make sure to wear gloves. Then once you paint any surface you need to have the paint “cure” first which takes about 30 days.

How do I do a layered look?

Paint a base color and after it dries paint a second color. Use a 150-sanding sponge and start sanding away to let the base color show through. You can also wet distress. Just dampen a sanding sponge and wipe away lightly until first coat is revealed. This works well if you have painted the first coat and waited a few days and then applied the second coat. You will need to wet distress within hours after application because once cured paint is difficult to remove.

Can I paint my kids furniture with Dixie Belle Paint?

Dixie Belle Paint is non-toxic with no VOC’s.
